ROBERT PAYNE (CATEMMSAL)
When I was young I used to travel around the dogs
shows
with my mother who bred Airedale Terriers with great success.
When I reached my teens I rebelled against the dog shows and
started to play Football and was lucky enough to sign professional
with a big club in London. A bad accident put a full stop on my
football
career so I went on and took a three year course at the National
Film
School. I started my first job in a Film company and eventually became
a wildlife cameraman often travelling to various locations
worldwide.
I married my 1st wife Sandra and whilst we were on our
honeymoon
we saw an advertisement in a local pet shop for Cavalier King
Charles Spaniels, we went to have a look and instantly fell in love,
his name was Humphrey, a blenheim. Humphrey eventually passed
away at eight years of age and I immediately got in touch with
the Kennel Club who gave me Diane Mclaines telephone number.
Diane sold us a blenheim boy, “Lochbuie Back To The Future” who
lived to the grand old age of 16. I also bought
another from Diane, a B&T boy,
“Beewye Magics Berberis” (Harry).
I became more and more interested in the breed
and thought
that I would like to have a go at showing so I returned to Diane
to ask her opinion and she gave me lots of encouragement and
advice which I will always be in her debt for. Harry fared quite
well around the shows holding his own amongst the best.
I later met Carol Sullivan (Who has since became a dear friend),
who had some dogs I greatly admired and she was willing to prove
Harry at stud with her bitch “Gabledene Graceland at Myhope”.
From this mating came “Myhope Follow That Dream, a B&T
bitch which carol offered me on breeding terms and I jumped
at the chance. Hannah also had reasonably good success
at the shows and her first litter produced 3 boys and 1 girl,
all rubies. Carol opted to have the bitch on the original
breeding terms agreement, and I was left with the 3 boys.
In amongst these three was something “Special”, Myhope Fever,
who went on to gain his title of Champion.
I have in the past served on the committee of the
Eastern
Counties Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Society for six years
but unfortunately unsavoury Politics drove me away,
I have also judged this breed on many occasions and have
recently had the privelage of Judging Cavaliers in Sweden.
My biggest aim is to breed healthy, sound quality stock of the
type I prefer and not to follow fashions. Jean and I have now
been together for 10 years and regularly attend shows both in
England and Overseas. We wish anyone with Clopsville or
Catemmsal descendants every success.
Puppies are rarely available to Kind Loving homes
